Solana Labs hosted the official kickoff of the DreamNet Hackathon, gathering developers, creators, and artificial intelligence (AI) enthusiasts at its New York headquarters. The event introduced DreamNet, a new protocol built on the Solana blockchain designed to power programmable story worlds using AI agents.

Presented in partnership with emerging tech leaders such as Eliza OSSend AIHelius, and Masa AI, the kickoff event went against the grain from a traditional hacking session. Instead, it served as an onboarding experience for those planning to participate in the week-long global hackathon, running this summer with over $50,000 in prizes are up for grabs.

Participants were introduced to the DreamNet development toolkit, including features like lore-native agents, story graphs, and AI interfaces for interactive world-building. The organizers held live demos, team Q&As, and networking sessions to orient potential contributors and collaborators.

“The goal is to provide builders with the infrastructure to create immersive digital experiences that evolve with users,” Remy (aka Squinch), a DreamNet developer explained during a panel.

The hackathon invites both remote and in-person participation, with projects evaluated on creativity, technical execution, and alignment with DreamNet’s mission. Judges are expected to spotlight those who push boundaries at the intersection of storytelling, decentralization, and AI.

“DreamNet’s ambition is to make interactive, agent-powered storytelling as programmable as code, placing authorship in the hands of creators while leveraging the scalability and speed of Solana’s blockchain network” Remy indicated.

As programmable intellectual property gains traction, the DreamNet Hackathon represents a significant step in shaping the tools and platforms that may define the future of digital storytelling.

Quote of the week

“Some people call this artificial intelligence, but the reality is this technology will enhance us. So instead of artificial intelligence, I think we’ll augment our intelligence.”
